A Yoga Journey

imagesCAO3IEBD

What is  a yoga journey? Hmmm??? Well….to me it mirrors my journey of life. Everything I practice on my mat I can relate back to my life. Some days I am frustrated and  feel badly about  my lack of flexibility. However I am able to quickly rid myself of these negative thoughts. I recognize that if I were more flexible in a pose that it would not make me more peaceful, calm,  kind or any of the things I strive to be better at in my life. What it would do would make me LOOK better in a pose and that would feed my Ego and thus I would feel proud. But this is an example of an Ego driven attachment and it would not satisfy me for long….  I realize that such “mind chatter” is a distraction from a greater truth.

When something or someone makes you feel really good or really bad you should consider a few things.  First consider how your attachment  to this person/thing  effects your emotional well-being. Do you want to be dependent on someone or something to make you feel a certain way?  Would it be nice if that person/thing came and went and your emotional well-being was still present, calm and radiant peace? It is OK to have people/things in your life that bring you joy and peace, but do not become attached to them. For they represent our ego driven attachments, and they will never satisfy us. We will always, search for more and suck the life out of what is.

What do you want?? Close your eyes and pretend your wish came true. Now how do you feel? Your life may LOOK different, but your feelings, and soul, will remain the same. In the end, it  is peace that we are all searching  for. It is the knowing that we are all one. We do not look toward others/things to fill us up, for we recognize that they exist already within us.

Next time you feel your ego is getting in the way of your practise on the mat;  take a deep breath, fill up your lungs, and exhale. Let go of the mind chatter. On your next breath, dare to go deeper within and beyond the distraction of ego. Journey on to your place of peace…….

The Sky is the Limit!

Women up hill picture

It is not your aptitude, but your attitude, that determines your altitude”

-Zig Ziglar

It was such a pleasure meeting with you all yesterday. I feel fortunate to be a part of your life for the next four weeks. I realize that starting a new fitness regime can be intimidating and overwhelming. I give you all credit for pushing yourself to do something different and out of your comfort zone. Regardless of what your fitness level is today I can assure you that it will be dramatically improved at the end of our journey together. Make the most of this process by setting some goals for yourself. Try to take just one day at a time. First thing after you wake up in the morning do a mental inventory of what it is you want t o accomplish for that day. And then just take that day one hour at a time. Create an emotional and physical environment that is positive and supportive. Be more present and aware so you are able to recognize what or who your saboteurs are. Be the change you desire. If you want more happiness and peace than be a more happy and peaceful person. If you want to be more fit and healthy than become more active and make better food choices. It sounds so simple right??? Then why do we struggle? After accommodating the needs and expectations of others we are often left feeling drained. Leaving us unmotivated to exercise and susceptible to eating poorly. So what do we do to change this perpetual cycle of doom? CHANGE! I know every one hates change…the monster you know is better then the monster you don’t know. But you must change what is not working in your life anymore. Try and stay away from negative people and surround yourself with people who are supportive and positive. You have everything you need within yourself to be successful. Believe you can do it! You are strong and you will reach your final destination feeling accomplished. Remember that it is not only about the destination most importantly it is the journey. Throughout this journey there will be many lessons and opportunities for personal growth. Be open and brave and you will undoubtedly become stronger. When you are having a difficult day and you feel yourself slipping…..dig in your heals and try to forge ahead. The benefit of being part of a group is that we can support and encourage one another. So use this site as a sounding board and whatever it is you are feeling or experiencing express yourself. Let the journey begin…..the sky’s the limit!
